Opis

The English version of the literary guidebook has been published: „Walking with Günter Grass. A Literary Mapping of the City”edited by Miłosława Borzyszkowska-Szewczyk and Marta Turska. Our literary guide is an invitation to read the landscapeof Gdańsk and Kashubia as a space for dialogue, infusedwith various stories. The seven authors of the guide −Miłosława Borzyszkowska-Szewczyk, Marion Brandt, Andrzej Faca, Anna Kowalewska-Mróz, Mirosław Ossowski, Marta Turskaand Marta Wróblewska −mapout nine itineraries inspired by the works of the NobelPrize winner from Gdańsk. They lead along the route ofGrass’s dialogues with various narratives of Gdańsk’spast and its architecture, with the art and culinary richnessof the region, following in the tracks of discussionsof post-war writers, visual artists and Jewish autobiographersof Gdańsk with the literary images of the „writerfrom Wrzeszcz/Langfuhr”. Günter Grass created a highly influential literary myth of Gdańsk. The “Danzig Trilogy” launched the City, Kashubia and Pomerania onto the stage of world literature not only as a case study of intoxication with fascism, but also as a borderland and laboratory of intercultural relations. Grass’s Gdańsk is not just the place where the action is set, the City is also the protagonist of the story. The guide is the result of a three-year research-cultural promotion projectcarried out by the Günter Grass Association in Gdańsk and the Research Lab for Narratives of Borderlands at the University of Gdańsk leading by Miłosława Borzyszkowska-Szewczyk. Published with the financial support of the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation, the Consulate General of Germany in Gdańsk, the University of Gdańsk and the Marshal's Office of Gdańsk Pomerania Province (Baltic Sea Cultural Centre). The translation of the texts was made possible thanks to a IDUB grant for the International Border Studies Center (ISBC) UG.
